All in all, the protest at the Capitol seems to have been very peaceful, with the most notable violence being by police, not protestors.
Temporary occupation of symbolic spaces has a long tradition in the history of peaceful protest.
From Occupy Wall Street, to the protest in the Australian parliament in the original post in this thread.
I am not sure why it is being described by every major media outlet as 'violent', let alone 'insurrection'. Especially given how determined they seemed to have been to call the BLM/Antifa/Black bloc protests as peaceful.
