You probably dont have to; simply proving it as good will result in a significant market for ATC, as some patients will either not tolerate 3TC or will have virus resistant to 3TC and will need "salvage" with ATC. However, in the longer term, larger "head to head" trials of 3TC vs ATC (in addition to other drugs) will answer this question. However, such a trial would need large numbers of patients and would be very expensive. Ultiimatlely this question may not be so important as it may be sufficient (for Avexa) tht ATC is an alternative effective drug that orks in patients with multi-drug resistant HIV.
