I find it almost amusing that the US seems to find fault with just about anything that isn't home grown, do they try and stall until their own industry attempts to catch up? in my last lost on the MST thread I posted some stuff I found on the VLE, it is interesting to see that S&W now have an electronically fired round, one where the precussion cap is replaced with one that is fired electronically, so they saw the merit in at least? but they can't go any further than that without infringing on MST patents!
They said that the RFID tech wasn't good enough because if two RFID tags (RINGS) were near the one weapon either one could switch the weapon in question on BOLLOCKS!!! JeeeeeZ they know stuff all about RFID if they believe that? each one has its own particular code (the ring) and until the weapon in question see's that particular ring and code, and only that code! it won't arm,it's that simple, it wouldn't matter if another person using a different ring was holding the weapon in question, it would just not arm!
they keep harping on about grip recognition, but it isn't accurate enough!not yet anyway, if ever? if they are that concerned, then why not use both technologies? i.e both ring and grip recognition, in where say an 80% pass on both would be sufficient to allow the weapon to arm? the chances of getting to an 80% reading falsely on both systems would be far greater than just using one method I would think?
Looking at all this, I believe it is a bit like a DVD I watched recently, about "Who killed the electric car?" it became evident (to me anyway) that the Car Manufacturers in conjunction with petroleum companies (vested interests and government)have placed just about every road block possible to keep the petrol engine at the forefront, and to prevent any new technology taking it over!even if it is better!
At what cost! not for them, but for you and I, and the environment???
Getting a bit off track there, but you get my reasoning, they don't want safer weapons really! well at least if it isn't home grown anyway, and even then it's debatable!
