personally I think you have hit the nail on the head; it is all about personal circumstances. I have what I think is a small holding but it is close to your mates. Not bragging, it is just a matter of perspective. Some people here will be sitting on millions. I have a holding in another company similar SP to vml 1.8m shares, mate of mine has 7m. Significant for both of us! It does not really matter, all perspective. Only other way to look at it to my mind would be your holding as % of SOI or top 20.
