A QLD senator has been pushing this for years. A very personal event regarding shorting caused him to take it up. ASIC response was to restate the findings of their shorting review - that shorting adds significantly to liquidity on the ASX, is of great value and benefits shareholders. YVMV !
He hasnt given up his fight but can't get anyone else in politics much interested.
