Blast furnaces are OK - with enough environmental technology available today. Coke ovens are an issue. A bigger obstacle is the capital and operational costs of Ironmaking and Steelmaking in Australia - it is loss-making on the export market, and marginal on the domestic market due to the competitiveness of imported steel. Currently the money to be made domestically is not in steelmaking itself, but rather value-adding by producing products like pipe or colorbond. However, comparative energy costs in Australia are becoming an issue for this too.
