As well as voice, there's also gesture as others have mentioned, Xped is looking to have these interactive features included in future versions of the app. How that looks, and where the technology comes from, we are still to find out.

In terms of competitors, and perhaps this is more suited to the specific thread created, but I've always considered Google as the number one threat. They have a department called ATAP (Advanced Technology and Projects group).

Below video is of their Project Soli, which is focused on gesture technology. But if you search them, you'll find many other areas they're working on. Not necessarily bad for Xped, it is good signs for the emerging industry, however I've always thought that Google has the resources, and now a new found love for creating hardware and products that make for interesting times ahead.
