Ever get the feeling Anthony Albanese and the activists in the ‘yes’ campaign aren’t telling you the full story about this referendum? You just know that there’s more to it than the “modest” change to your Constitution they’re promising. When you hear Albo on the radio telling Ben Fordham that “this isn't about a treaty”, you know he’s trying to pull the wool over your eyes. Not only did he promise a treaty, but he knows the Voice is the first step in that process. He was even caught wearing a t-shirt that says: “Voice, Treaty, Truth”!They’re the three stages of the rocket this referendum is trying to fire into the heart of our democracy.First, they enshrine a Voice in the Constitution, then they use it to leverage a treaty, then they set up a “truth telling commission” to rewrite our history.Don’t believe me? Listen to the people who are behind the Voice.Megan Davis, a senior architect of this referendum, said the Voice would be the “enabling mechanism” for a treaty1.She said it would be a “change to the structure of Australia’s public institutions and would redistribute public power via the Constitution”.So make no mistake. This referendum is 100 per cent about a treaty. And it is about changing our democracy to shift power away from every Australian who shares in it equally, towards one group based on their race. And what would be in a treaty?According to Tom Calma – who wrote the report on how the Voice would work – a treaty would mean “land swapping” and “compensation paid”2.In April, law experts from the University of Technology Sydney said a treaty could include “financial compensation, return of land, formal recognition of historic wrongs, and symbolic gestures of reconciliation, such asapologies”3.Thomas Mayo, who sits on the PM’s Referendum Working Group, which drafted the referendum question, said the Voice is the “first step” in making Australians “pay the rent” and pay “reparations and compensation”4.Sure, there might be some people happy to “pay the rent” through “compensation and reparations”, but just don’t tell us this referendum isn’t about a treaty!Because no one believes you!Yours in unity,Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Priceon behalf of FAIR AUSTRALIA
