That's why we're a representative democracy. Politicians make decisions on behalf of the population because they're less susceptible to lies and fear campaigns. The people decide who those politicians should be. The ALP decided in this instance to go to referendum rather than putting the Voice through the ordinary process of representative democracy. The government and Aboriginal people (if you're a Voice supporter) paid the price.
