Makarrata is a word in the Yolngu language meaning a coming together after a struggle, facing the facts of wrongs and living again in peace.
After watching Insiders it appears Makarrata isn't sufficient. What is now demanded is a Makarrata Commission. In other words A VOICE; so the Big M isn't just a descriptive terminology it is a body. A body which if not created is a broken election promise in the minds of the descendants of the early inhabitants.
Well the easy fix is to rename the Dept of Aboriginal Affairs the Makarrata Commission; an existing body which can fulfill the criteria.
The other interesting item was Close the Gap. The areas where the gap is not being closed are outside what any government can achieve imho. The items were more akin to self-help; the tools have been provided but the uptake wanting.
