Diamond developer Reefton Mining NL has said its plans to establish a commercial mining operation have been enhanced by higher than expected diamond valuations.

The 2,412 diamonds weighing 460 carats recovered by the company to the end of 2004 had been professionally valued at $US219 a carat, Reefton said.

The diamonds were recovered from Reefton's onshore tenement at its Skeleton Coast project in the southern African nation of Namibia.

Chief executive Simon Gilbert said the valuations were 10 per cent better than the company assumed in its scoping studies.

Reefton is targeting a 2007 production start-up.

Reefton shares closed unchanged at 5.3 cents.
