The issue for the government to sort out seems to be whether this is a dispute about energy policy, or one about fire fighter safety. If it's a genuine safety issue then that needs to be worked through as constructively as possible. If safety is being misused as a proxy for energy policy, then the Victorian government is widely held to be one with a need to find significant budget savings. They might start by considering whether the $500 million the CFA draws annually from the Victorian government is money well spent if the CFA believes fires should be fought on the basis of political allegiance rather than community safety.
