That is the imputation system was designed to avoid the problem everywhere else in the world, except NZ that also has imputation, that dividends were not taxed twice, hence why in effect Australia's corporate tax rate is already better than the US and other countries that may have lower headline corporate tax rates - you realise for example the USA has State company tax and taxes dividends twice making their effective corporate tax rate greater than 40%.

This Howard giveaway, like the super concessions and a host of other measures that entrenched middle class welfare was a key to causing structural deficits going forward. I was hoping the budget would address some of these to, to address debt issues, whilst allowing the govt to fasten the pace of income tax relief in light of spiralling housing and cost of living pressures of PAYG workers over the last 5 yearss (at a time of stalling wages and rampant cost of living pressures).
