''im all for a Greener future but it has to be profitable ''

this is a false belief created by unimaginative, visionless conservative minds a long time ago

    it's just plain wrong

take an example of public transport -- our conservative minds would tell us that 'public transport' has to be 'profitable'

well, no - it does not. If we think of the reasons why we want public transport - it's very basic. We want people to be able to move longer distances than they can on foot or on bicycles etc - to do business and life in our societies -

and if we do commerce and living in our societies - we generate an economy, and wealth -

all of which generates incomes, profit and tax -

now, if you wish all levels of society to be able to participate in that economic growth and enable a better lifestyle for everyone in the society - then, you make public transport readily affordable to all - you might even make it free -

and you bear the cost out of taxes etc ------ you treat it as an investment, a cost of doing business - as opposed to just a burden on society

it does NOT have to be profitable in itself - it profits the society by the growth and betterment of society that it produces

the same philosophy can be used in areas like power, housing, health etc
