"Parliamentary legal draftsmen are a rare breed and need very specialist skills
to produce our Laws."
Our public servants have served the needs of parliament well, in my opinion. John Howard, as prime minister, cut the numbers of lawyers employed in the Attorney-General Department, outsourced some of the Commonwealth's legal works to private law firms. That resulted in the number of inhouse legal expertise available to the Commonwealth.
In my opinion, Howard's move was ideological, it did not save the Commonwealth any money, it actually ended up costing the Commonwealth more.
