I hold both VPG and CER. However the key difference for me between the 2 is that while both have large exposure overseas, VPG has effectively protected their exposure to the European market through an arrangement with RBS wherby RBS have included VPG assests into an RBS entity. While this limits the upside potential for VPG over I think the next 2 years it does provide high level of protection if things get worse. Am overseas at the moment so dont have details with me. My attraction to CER is the enormous upside potential but at much higher risk then VPG.
Incidently I follow your posts on REITs closely and find them greatly informative.
