Conference on 19 June 2013 in Berlin
Virtual power plants
CHP
New Business Area for Utilities and Energy Suppliers
What is it about?
The simultaneous generation of electricity and heat in highly efficient cogeneration leads to high efficiencies and efficiencies. With the expansion of renewable energies, it becomes increasingly important to build also efficient controllable capacities, as well as to synchronize production and consumption. Quickly adjustable gas motors are particularly suitable to pay a compensation of fluctuating supply, as well as to contribute additional ancillary services such as balancing energy safe power supply. Different legal frameworks and funding such as the amended KWKG of 2012 and the mini CHP programme have significantly helped to increase the economic attractiveness of small CHP plants. It facilitated the storage technique to decouple the generation of electricity from cogeneration using heat such as in times of increased demand for electricity.
Here, approaches for new services and businesses offer for utilities and municipal utilities. Networked and coordinated in the operation, flexible plants avoid local congestion of the networks and even supply bottlenecks. Economic opportunities are found in generating marketable products, streamline the creation of the timetable as well as the of additional ancillary services. To the equipment must be capable of communication and are centrally controlled. In addition to the higher investment costs including for generously dimensioned thermal memory, the additional costs for communication and control for specific smaller installations are an economic factor.
Some public utilities and energy providers have played a pioneering role and gained the first experiences with the construction of virtual power plants. Electricity generation units of various technologies, performance classes, and energy will be bundled. In addition, the projects in the control and communication concepts, differ, as well as the involvement of saving and controllable loads.
- What marketing options exist for virtual power plants?
- What are the synergies through bundling of various plants?
- From which plant size is worth inclusion in a virtual power plant?
- What are the technological solutions have been proven and which optimization potentials exist?
The workshop shows the possibilities and opportunities, but also the existing obstacles in the construction of virtual power plants and allows for an open discussion of the approaches. It offers a comprehensive transfer of knowledge as well as practical exchanges of experience in particular public utilities and energy companies.

KICK-OFF ON THE EVE
On 06.18.2013 we invite all participants to a common Eve program:
17:00 clock
Visit the Wärmeleitwarte of Vattenfall Europe heat AG in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg, the virtual power plant control room
{pictue}
With a combination of block heat and power plants with a capacity of 5.5 to 2000 kWel attempts using heat pumps Vattenfall consumption and supply in the respective renewable electricity offer to adapt. To the distributed systems are controlled by the Vattenfall heat control room in Berlin, which regulates also the large district heating plants.
20:00 clock
Dinner together at the invitation of B.KWK
Please indicate on the registration form if you attend want. A transfer of the Wärmeleitwarte the restaurant is organized.

EUREF campus in Berlin-Schöneberg, a vision of the "intelligent city" of tomorrow is being developed currently. In the future, ecologically and economically sustainable solutions to make the Office and Science Campus into a Europe-wide unique Centre for innovations and future projects. On the grounds of the old gasometers, the intelligent power grid first in this form was end of 2011 (micro smart grid) Berlin commissioned. The network connects to a virtual power plant wind turbines, photovoltaic and micro-cogeneration and connects them with electric vehicles and a stationary network buffer memory. Locally generated renewable energy will be reduced as the dependency of the public grid and examines the interaction between the different components.
