I've worked in surgery as an intern though only. I can definatley see AR being used as well. Imagine the surgeon standing over an operating field (area they are working on) and being able to see the different structures in a more informative way. Let's say for example they are cutting out a tumor in the liver and they have the MRI information or CT scan displayed over the actual live liver they are performing on and they can use the to overlay the difference between the tumor and healthy liver. That's just one example I can think of out of thousands...
