I did own shares but when, despit calls to computershare,couldnt take up the offer because of a change of address ,took my bat and ball and went home. But, I will be buying back in when the dust settles.
There is to my kmowledge, no small (10kwh) vrfb. This is because of the energy density of the vanadium electrolyte. Theres is a 10kwh flow battery but it uses znbr.
VRFB are used as big storage or supply smoothing vith solar or wind. Ie, removes the peaks and troughs of when the wind doesnt blow or the sun doesnt shine. They are container sized units because they use thousands of litres of electrolyte. From memory, the VRFB on King Island, run by Tasmanian Hydro has two tanks each holding 68, 000 litres. Not too sure of its electrical capacity.
Li batteries are regarded as power batteries. They are best suited to cars and because of their size and weight mobile devices. They have limited cycle life and depth of discharge. Also some safety concerns, fire and poisonous gasses. There are currently no recommended procedures to extinguish a li fire. The Clean energy authority recommends evacuation, and let the fire burn out.
Flow batteries are regarded as energy batteries. They discharge steadily over a longer time and are big. They are best suited to stationary applications. Homes and grids. They have greater cycle life and depth of discharge than Li. The are comparetatively safe and fire retardent.
IMO, The current use of Li as large storage batteriez (grid support and smoothing) is a hangover to the available tech. With the increase in electric vehicles Li will be in more demand and more costly. Hopefully allowing VRFB to assume its true big energy role.
