the problem with natural v synthetic boils down to consistency and reliability. The more expensive synthetic product is not an issue if it results in better performing more durable more reliable batteries. And there's plenty of carbonaceous feedstock for synthetic apart from natural graphite. But this has been done to death surely? I'm still waiting for an answer from the experts why not a single would-be graphite producer has yet been courted by any would-be EV manufacturer?
