Andy Schmulow, Associate professor at the school of law at Wollongong University, is certainly well informed about financial regulation and advances a savage critique of ASIC and its total failure to do the job it exists for: to enforce the law.

the newly re-elected federal Labor govt has the opportunity through its absolute majority in parliament to totally reform the area expected to be but not now covered by ASIC because of its ongoing failings.

Labor would be well advised to rope in Prof. Schmulow to get the job done properly. The time for endless inquiries has long passed. Now is the time for a govt to act.

Labor is the only one of the two major political parties that could possibly do the job. The Liberals could never be expected to properly reform such a key area of the economy given their ever ready willingness to be compromised and corrupted. The Nats actually wouldn't be capable.

it's about time stronger protections were put in place covering the A$4 trillion in super funds. The wild west is a movie genre not a method of prudential management.

if Labor wants to know where to start it could think about how to fix the farce whereby ASX regulates **promotion blocked** while actively participating in it. How ASX openly discriminates in favor of its friends and against ordinary investors .

there is so much that needs to be done, but getting a regulator that actually does its job is needed now.
