Vulcan Energie Resources GmbH is expected to start carrying out a 3D seismic survey around the town of Frankenthal in the Rhine-Palatinate district in autumn. According to Die Rheinpfalz, the goal is to find possible drilling points for geothermal plants and lithium mining.

Now that the necessary permits have been in place since the end of 2021, the search for geothermal energy and lithium will begin in autumn around Frankenthal (Palatinate) and another 38 towns and communities. With regard to the necessary measurements, which are made using plates attached under trucks, which are made to vibrate for a short time and thus generate sound waves that can be measured, Die Rheinpfalz quotes the company as follows: "Seismics is a crucial project step towards the generation of renewable Energy and extraction of carbon-neutral lithium in the region.”

Since the city administration of Frankenthal is involved in the process, it has now formed a working group on the subject of geothermal energy. As Die Rheinpfalz reports, it is made up of employees from the municipal areas of order and environment, geo-information, buildings and land, and planning and construction.
