Vulcan, the city of Landau, and the municipalities of Insheim, Herxheim, and Rohrbach are setting shares for trade tax.Karlsruhe, March 7, 2024. Vulcan plans to build an integrated geothermal and lithium extraction plant in the Landau industrial area, which is intended to secure the heat supply with CO2-neutral heat for Landau and the region in the future. Now, Vulcan, the city of Landau, and the surrounding municipalities of Insheim, Herxheim, and Rohrbach have reached an agreement on the distribution of the trade tax for the planned facility. This stipulates that Vulcan will pay the taxes incurred directly on-site and then distribute them among the mentioned municipalities. This ensures that the region fully benefits from Vulcan's project. In the planned geothermal and lithium extraction plant in the Landau industrial area, CO2-neutral thermal energy will be generated in the future, which can be used by the city of Landau and the surrounding municipalities for heat supply and for climate-neutral energy supply for industry and commerce. In addition, the production of climate-neutral lithium, which will also take place there, supports regional economic development in the Upper Rhine Valley as well as the green mobility transition in Germany and Europe. Vulcan is continuously in close and productive exchange with the participating municipalities for the implementation of the ZERO CARBON LITHIUM™ project.Dominik Geißler, Lord Mayor of Landau, Christian Sommer, Mayor of the Herxheim collective municipality, Sven Koch, Mayor of Herxheim, Martin Baumstark, Mayor of Insheim, and Thomas Kienzler, Mayor of Rohrbach, welcome the agreement reached on the distribution of the trade tax. They say, "We have agreed on a fair distribution key that takes the interests of all parties into account as best as possible. This also ensures that the municipalities hosting the facilities, where only drilling sites will be established, receive a share of the trade tax - even though no personnel will be maintained on-site. We are convinced: This creates acceptance for the project." Therefore, the signing of the contract is an important milestone to significantly advance climate-neutral and base-load capable, i.e., always available, heat supply and at the same time lithium extraction in the Southern Palatinate, according to the municipal representatives."We are very pleased that we were able to reach an agreement with the city of Landau and the municipalities of Insheim, Herxheim, and Rohrbach on the distribution of trade tax for our geothermal and lithium extraction plant. With our project, we want to support Landau and the surrounding area with climate-neutral thermal energy and at the same time involve them in the development and success of our company. Only through transparent and fair cooperation with all stakeholders can a project like the ZERO CARBON LITHIUM™ project of Vulcan be realized and its benefits for the region asserted. Therefore, the determination of trade tax shares was an important step today," said Thorsten Weimann, Chief Development Officer and Managing Director of Vulcan Energy.
