efficiency is not an issue from my understanding. the energy required for the production of hydrogen with carbon byproduct is slightly less than electrolosis and u get a high value byproduct. the hydrogen becomes free.

hythane vehicles are already at the commercialisation stage. hcng is to become a fuel standard in india. a hythane station already exists in india and tests are underway involving 5 automakers and different vehicles ranging from autorickshaws to buses.once tests are complete ,rollout should be expected. bus demo project to begin late 2009, early 2010 involving 50 buses using the engine already developed.(see recent ann)
135 fuel stations in delhi to be made hcng compliant, thats just delhi, not to mention the other cities. indian government overall hydrogen initiative is to spent Rs 24,000 crore, a major part on production, storage and dispensing of hydrogen.
my calculations work that out to be over $6,313,000000 AUD
