Firstly capital punishment is really not as bad as being locked up for the rest of your life and there is no evidence that capital punishment is a deterrent.
As to the costs of imprisonment well I am sure they could be substantially reduced, even down to just about nothing if the present system was changed for long term recalcitrant prisoners.

Is public castration really practised in the Middle East ?
I have not heard of it, but at present in Nigeria a woman has been sentenced by an Islamic court to be stoned to death for having a child out of wedlock, so public castration is not beyond the realms of possibility I suppose.

I do not support capital punishment and I do not want to see this country ever turned into anything like the Middle East where Warlords rule and distribute rough justice as it suits them.
