watso, the Joe situation in Qld was a little more complex. When you think about it the Government only needs 51% of the seats. So what Joe did was put candidates up in a restricted number of seats, those he could win to hold power. Consequently he did not need a majority of the votes caste so he could govern with about 30% of the vote. The ALP could do the same if they only stood candidates in seats they could win. That is how the math works out.
