WA ministers head for Karratha
Western Australian Government ministers will gather in the Pilbara town of Karratha today and spend two days attending a range of functions.
The ministers will also meet staff from their departments and visit community and business groups associated with their portfolios.
The Minister for Planning and Infrastructure, Alannah MacTiernan, will release a new boating guide for the west Pilbara during her stay.
She will also join the Premier, Alan Carpenter, to turn the first sod on stage two of the Karratha-Tom Price road.
Residents from Tom Price will travel 600 kilometres to Karratha to raise their concerns with Health Minister Jim McGinty about staffing changes at their hospital.
Residents fear the 12-bed district hospital is being downgraded to a two-bed nursing post.
Jackie Mattich, from Tom Price's Hospital Community Action Groups, says more than 800 people have signed a petition objecting to the staff changes.
"It's a terrible situation to think that somebody in government, ie Mr McGinty, thinks our lives are worth so little here in the north-west and Tom Price," she said.
A Cabinet meeting will be held tomorrow morning.
