The Government will have three months to respond and has already been considering adjustments to the policy.

“This is our gas,” Premier Roger Cook told parliament.“Western Australia should be the principal beneficiary.”He said the Government will update the policy in coming weeks to “ensure the domestic gas policy meets our State’s needs for the next decade”.Shadow Energy minister Steve Thomas said the committee had effectively left it to the government to work out.“It is critical there is enough domestic gas coming into the system for local industry. Thousands of jobs rely on it,” he said.Mr Thomas said the key issue was transparency about the details of deals the State Government inked with producers.A spokesman for Mineral Resources said the company had “always said partial exports should be permitted during periods when there is no shortfall in the market”.“We are confident the State Government will balance the domestic market’s requirements with the need to incentivise investment in finding and developing onshore gas.“Unless there is flexibility to export above the domestic market’s needs, there will be no incentive to fully develop onshore gas resources.”
