The base gas load will be required for the next foreseeable future IMO. It is inconceivably expensive to have some form of power storage sufficiently large enough to power the state when there is zero renewable input. Whether energy companies see it within their remit or area of expertise to operate and manage gas fields is something else. Personally I suspect not given they already have a huge capex and personnel commitment in the next few decades in transitioning to renewables without having to worry about managing and operating gas fields.
