    secession is never far away from the psyche of the average sandgroper and has been voted for twice however that was long ago and times have changed.

    to do so today would be difficult owing to the resources here. how to defend them if need be? we could enter into an alliance with the rest of oz but we would need to pay for that - nothing is free. atm we provide 40%(?) of the gdp.

    our population over such an area could not support such an endeavour and would need immigration. plus we also have the problems of our military bases some of which the rest of australia depends on - allow these to stay here rent free in exchange for a defence pact?

    where would we get our money from? every sovereign state has the right to mint their own money - would we then go cap in hand to the world bank or imf and sell our soul? i think with the state of politics today and the charlatans that inhabit those halls they would quickly sell the rest down the river

    lot of questions but not easily solved. in reality we could only secede if peace worldwide was established.
