    I think we would be better off with large clean energy sources than the clutter and complications of renewables but it would have to compete on price and nuclear currently can't do that from what i've seen. Fusion or thorium might and both would be much longer term than coal power stations have been.
    So unless nuclear power using uranium is dramatically reduced in cost then it would have to be short lived.

    Any of them would also need much smaller work forces than fossil fuels but surely shorter working hours is the way forward as automation takes over anyway?
