The WA hospital system is completely farked and that's no joke.
They moved a bunch of stuff to Fiona Stanley hospital and shuttered entire wards of Royal Perth Hospital - which was the original plan.
Problem is that building Fiona Stanley overran and took so bloody long that the population grew in the meantime and now they need more than both.
But a lot of Royal Perth is still shut down due to lack of both equipment and staff.
Which means that the WA hospital system is stretched right now even without COVID.
If COVID hits WA, it'll be a disaster. McGowan knows that which is why he's terrified to take any chances of letting COVID in at all..
The $2 Billion he's injecting can't fix things immediately, it'll take at least 2 years for that to effect anything for real. He should have injected that $2B at the beginning of last year.
And it still isn't enough - WA needs an entire new hospital - because the population has grown that much.
