But the Yanta, Hengabu and the Babuaf are still at loggerheads regarding traditional ownership.
My view is that the original landowners were the Peu. They have all but died out- killed by Yanta and disease.
Probably the next most worthy are the Watut based Babuaf – but these people are not nearly as aggressive as the Yanta.
In the Special LTC, abortive naturally, there were something like 26 claimants, all with varying degrees of documentation – ranging from the Markham based Saab, who are closely related to the Babuaf but who hate each others guts, the Yanta and the Hengabu- basically the same mob but who also hate each others guts, and of course the Peu – all dead but plenty of impersonators around.
Obviously the mine is a technical goer, but with the current state of PNG politics the sovereign risk has to be enormous. This is not mentioned in the briefing.
