Do you remember the Eastern suburbs team (wellington) in 1981, they got into a stouch with the mongrel mob at "the tiger" in Newtown, 14 were convicted of manslaughter and served 18 months each. They were as hard as nails through the non to semi professional years. I remember both the league and union boys all worked the council rubish collection jobs, if they didnt own a farm. Then the rubbish bins were galvinised steal and the boys d run behind the truck hiffin the bins up to the catchers on the trucks who'd empty them and hiff them back. All at break neck speed. They'd finish there runs before lunch then go break a few legs in the pub downing some glass jugs and then go to training.
