If they are going to use wisdom's suggestion of lateral drilling to get the gas out, they'll need accurate 3D seismics to drill such. Plus they discovered two main things with P1: gas, and that the seismics were very wrong in some respects. Therefore, to increase the chances of P2, P3, P4 etc. being a success, that was the time to obtain the data.
