hi struggler,

40's heaps busy, so belated.

40's been to many a poor country with mrs 40 in tow and our backpacks weighing us down. teddy stays at home lol.

the poorer people are, the more hospitable they are. the less they have, the more they give in relation to their own 'wealth'. wealth, be it just a shack with grass roof or the whole family living in one room with few possessions.

the altiplano in peru, in our experience, is one of the worst of the poorer places on earth. did i say inhospitable ! cold, wet and very little money.

bejing, in jolly ole' china and towns/villages around sw china, we met families living in one room but the cuppa was there and eats treats along too. must say we left with fewer clothes than we arrived with. jackets, t shirts, jumpers etc all given over but only accepted reluctantly.

philipine village with hardly a brick home in sight and if it wasn't for the coconuts, drinks would be unavailable. say too, we left with gifts. later same day we went and bought 2 kilos of salt and gave up clothes, all to be sent back to the village. many more stories like this.

you bet the poorer people are the more we enjoy our travels.

'its as good to give, as it is to receive' so the saying goes.
