Good that you mentioned here AFI & ARG and few others. Remember AFI & ARG has much bigger market cap & fund under management but I know AFI fees are lower then that of WAM but importantly they worked well for those who are looking at total return (i.e. capital growth + dividend)... IMO.
see below total return on investment in AFI, ARG & WAM. While WAM significantly poor in capital growth which resulted into 2.15% capital lost while in AFI & ARG both has positive Capital Growth making them winner when it comes to total return. So if WAM was very well run recently (I am not talking about since it's inception in 1999) then you would be closer to AFI & ARG when it comes total return... IMO.
Those investor who invested in 2017 most probably loss their capital if they sell today.. IMO.
