I thought a good way to see what has happend is to compare NTA from January 2017 ($2.00) and the most recent, DEcember 2021 ($1.88).
Then you can add in the dividends paid which total $0.774. So the total return in the NTA or portfolio is 2.00 up to 2.654, which is a 32.7% increase over the period.
You could use the accumulation index (XAOA as someone mentioned) to compare or you could grab street tracks 200 (STW) and do a similar thing. The NTA is the share price, then you just add in the dividends.

This ignores franking credits which we should technically add in becuase any capital growth is before tax but dividends have some tax paid so that will boost the return. I think this matters for the peple that hold in super funds where I think they get away with not paying much tax at all.

Also, even if you want income, you should be using the DRP and getting the 2.5% boost and then selling rather than taking the div as cash. So this can boost the return as well.

Even with all this, the total return is probaly lower than the XAOA.

Of course this will not line up with change in share price but it at least shows you what the fund has done for you as a shareholder after all expenses.
