Not that I managed to grab it up while it was up, nor did I have a peek inside it - I would never - but the good news is that it looks like the app permissions do state that it connects to a VPN, so that's an actual thing.
I mean in terms of the app, who cares if it's Cordova or not. The only thing it really has to do, app side, is give you an interface for connecting to the VPN and do some caching - their servers are what do the compression...right?
