It's because they are using UDP with increased packet sizes as the tunnel. Due to this the speedtests have no standing on real world usage. Just use it, if you notice it being slow or it's using more data than before stop.
I've had it active all day, run a couple of tests but other than that have been using my phone normally. Apparently I have saved 22% of my data usage and have noticed no performance degradation, quite the opposite in fact.
