My youngest son turns 12 on cup day and we are interested in buying a small quantity of shares for him to get him started in the sharemarket.
I have tried to pursuade him in shares that i like. However, he likes brands that he knows which is fair enough. Its a long term project to encourage him.
As he likes food and drinks the two companies that interest him are Coca Cola Amatil and Woolworths.
As we won't be buying alot of shares i have suggested to my wife just to buy one parcel of shares and stick with it rather than trying to diversify on a limited budget. He can always increase or diversify over time once he understands alot more about the sharemarket. The good thing is, he will at least be getting a dividend twice a year with either of these two companies.
Any thoughts on which would be the better of the two or possibly another company would be appreciated. I had thought about BHP. However, he has no interest in a mining company.
Your ideas would be appreciated.
TIA.
