So junior wants shares in easily recognisable companies, that are also good value?

QAN will be 'cheap' this week. It is after all a highly profitable business. They'll keep on plugging away and put these troubles behind them. Investing in airlines is fraught with danger, but there comes a point in time that the value is too hard to refuse.

TLS is fundamentally sound. Good dividend especially with compounding over time. It will slowly lose its dog tags in my opinion.

A few names that also come to mind. Not too sure about these ones fundamentally, but they are reasonably well known and might interest him: CTX (fuel), ARP (4WD accessories).

Thinking outside the square here, but perhaps he would be interested in a biotech that is researching an issue/illness that he knows of someone that is affected by it?

Who knows, I'm just throwing some ideas out there. Good luck.
