    I mentioned Great Britain in WW2. The "logicians" were all on the continent. The point being that courage and "logic" are not always good bedfellows.

    If terrorism aims to produce terror surely the antidote to that is resistance and the courage to combat it .

    As far as your reference to Europe goes the present crisis shows just how divided it really is and it will be a long time before it gets near the US in military might (because of it's pacifists and greens) and economically.

    It's must vaunted unity may give way to many bi-lateral
    US/ "new" European nation agreements on trade and even defence (if NATO goes under).
