Just think through the issue.

This is far from sitting on the fence. This is facing reality. We are surrounded by South East Asia and if they turn on us we could be in trouble. Indonesia has already turned on us over East Timor.

Also we are facing the reality of the establishment of a Muslim Super State in South East Asia which could very easily involve the northern part of Australia.

In the long term it could prove of little value relying on the US if they should be weakened by ongoing terrorist threats. I see coming a power switch from America to Europe in the not to distant future which may not favour Australia in the long run.

Also Australia's physical involvment in Iraq could be seen as immoral when the likes of Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and others are in desperate need.
