That’s a risk, for sure — but it’s not a given. I’m more hopeful that he’ll have a backbone. Coal royalties will stay, of course — the QLD budget would be in tatters without them — but they can and should be reformed and moderated. The mining companies and business sector more generally should be piling the pressure on Crisafulli to commit to that before the election in October.
