re: WAR- Its Israel Pushing T Thankfully, some of the strongest critics and analysts of US government policy are Americans. They may be on the fringe and they may face alienation by the administration propaganda machine, but they are there and able to speak out. This is consistent with the true spirit of freedom of thought and expression which runs deep in many of the US people.

In normal times, divergent views are simply submerged in the tide of nationalistic sentiment and patriotic fervour. Many US citizens are unaware and unconcerned about the rest of the world, but at times like this, when the administration becomes plainly despotic and cannot substantiate its actions, alternative views are aired and heard and listened to more widely.

The outcome may be that Bush loses popularity in the polls and the administration is forced to change tack, or else Bush may convince the US people and be able to act unilaterally in the military sense and pursue stated and unstated agendas. The only thing really restraining US use of power is US public opinion.
