If you are talking about a war where Australia is being invaded it would be akin to a world war, and WMD would be deployed in some fashion in my opinion.
If you are talking about a conflict in a Taiwan, India, Indonesia for example, I doubt we would look to conscription.
But if conscription was required females can make as good a soldier as a male, so why not conscript them. A friend's daughter is doing very well in officer corp in the Army. I don't see a difference.
The USA may have an equivalent to a civil war shortly, they will need all the soldiers they can get if it comes to that.
