Retail push by Clean Seas
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
South Australian sustainable aquaculture pioneer, Clean Seas, has launched a retail strategy which will provide a route to Australian and overseas markets for its substantial stocks of locally-bred and raised Kingfish and a potential outlet for its world-first sustainable Southern Bluefin Tuna, commercialisation of which is set to commence in the new year.
The wild catch of Mediterranean Northern Bluefin Tuna (NBT) declined significantly to about 13,000 tonnes in 2009 and the European Union will vote on the banning of NBT fishing in March next year. At the same time, the price of Southern Bluefin Tuna has risen from 900Yen/kg in May this year to more than 2000Yen/kg in September.
