What you say is true but you neglect to add that we were among the leaders in putting a price on carbon. Per capita, we are one of the wealthiest and most intense carbon polluting countries in the world so it was appropriate for us to take the lead. The shame of it is that Rudd didn't ever negotiate sincerely with Turnbull when there was unclouded bipartisan support for an ETS.
Other countries followed out lead into pricing fossil carbon. By the noises these countries now make, they are less likely to follow Australia out of carbon pricing. Australia and Canada are now the pariah states of carbon trading.
