I actually go the other way with that. Interest only mortgage loans often denote investment property by holders. Being assets are the investment and usually their own home, whether unencumbered or not.
It then basically comes down to the location of the majority of the mortgage investments. Area demand, positive/negative rental arrears, economy, unemployment etc.
Statistics for the UK are all over the place, complicating any real chance of analysis trend.
Final decision for me to whether I top up or not is based on share price, and DIV value. At the moment the both are worthwhile in comparison to no risk term deposits. But that may just be me.
Overall I'm disappointed in NAB when comparing it to their competitors. But fiscally is the present SP value or not?, for myself I think so.
